It doesn’t take long for Mrs J to end up in the kitchen, wherever she goes. In this case though mainly as an observer. Mrs J enjoys the good fortune of being “at home” but still being treated like a guest. Life is good!

So here’s a little taste of what Mrs B has served up already.

Pickled herring and potatoes. Yes, that’s an aquavit in the top left corner.

Gooseberry pie. Gooseberries from the bush around the corner. Yum.

Oven baked “sik”, a Baltic form of whitefish, with dill and potatoes.

And “sikrom” sauce.

Mrs J can tell that Mrs B is slightly stressed out by the fact that just about everything that she cooks gets photographed. But she accepts it (with a small sigh) for her king and country (and they should be proud).

Mrs J’s cooking today is rooted in a lot of this type of food. She also had her fair share of hotdogs, pressed meats and processed soups and stews, especially at school up here in 19frozetodeath. Also, lots of variations of pork, some of it good, some of it pretty terrible by today’s standards.

Remember the good and ditch the rest – sound food advice in Mrs J’s opinion!

Mrs B’s kitchen highlights, in Mrs J’s opinion, is very much about fresh fish, with good butter and good dairy products in the sauces and sides. And of course sweet, yummy desserts. Always with a bit of cream, ice-cream or vanilla whip. Simple and delicious.
