It’s time to dig deep and start over for Mrs J on her exercise programme. She was out yesterday for her first run after a month of forced rest.

It was nice! Plenty of room for improvement.

Mrs J has some pretty ambitious sports life-goals for a late thirties girl. She’s going to run a half-marathon. She’s just flexible on the timing.

Having ambitious goals and focusing on the positive is important. Realism, however, is also important. After all, the most important thing is being healthy and happy while you’re training!

In that spirit and inspired by all the sports Mrs J has been enjoying on TV lately, here’s Mrs J’s top 5 events in sport that she won’t attempt.

Ever.

1. The Marathon

Being a runner, you might imagine that Mrs J would make it her goal to run one of the major marathons. But she happens to be rather fond of her knees. She’ll be tuning in to the Olympic marathon though. From her comfy chair, probably.

2. The Volvo Ocean Race.

Love the stunning pictures. Looks incredibly heroic. Love following the tracker. But a year being lobsterized, cold, soaked and steamed? Eating stale food? No sleep for weeks? Meh, pass.

3. The Holmenkollen Classic 50k

This one separates the men from the boys. Love the tradition and history that comes with it. But 50k on skis? Going uphill? It’s not a good way to die.

4. Rally car racing

Mrs J can’t even watch without screaming. Holy death wish Batman!

5. The Tour de France

Just the thought of conquering those mountains. What an incredible feeling that must be! Wait… it’s the feeling of a bleeding saddle sore. The end.

This all being said, Mrs J would like to send her best wishes and cheers to all the men and women that do attempt these things. Mrs J thinks you’re all a bit nuts. But mainly incredible and inspiring.

Good luck to all!
