After spending last weekend in the company of women, Mrs J has been thinking a lot this week about what women have in common – and what Mrs J has and doesn’t have in common with the general “woman” stereotype.
Being a woman is pretty darn great. Most of the time.
Mrs J is definitely a woman and has no plans to change that in this lifetime. Just for the record.
Also for the record, she doesn’t believe in stereotypes. Except as a form of entertainment.
That said, she does spy several likes, behaviors and skills in her own personality that are distinctly more associated with the “man” stereotype. And there are definitely a few things out there that should not be just guy things.
1. Gadgets.
Gadgets are fun. Gadgets solve problems you didn’t know you had. Why are there not more gadgets for women? Why don’t more women like (or admit to liking) gadgets? Mrs J would like something remote controlled for her next birthday. Or maybe the new iPad. Just saying.
2. Ego-massages
Women are great at giving ego-massages and tend to claim they don’t “need” their own egos stroked. However, a good ego-massage can do wonders for confidence. And many women could do with a confidence boost. Mrs J likes massages, both ego and regular. Just saying.
3. Waterguns
Bring it on, punk. Also, see (1).
4. Sports on TV
Mrs J is currently experiencing separation anxiety after the end of the winter sports season. This is very un-woman-like, apparently. But why? Surely there are just as many women athletes out there as men. So it would follow there are also as many women armchair optimists as men? Or?
5. Really bad jokes
The funniest story Mrs J ever heard involved poo. Not baby poo.
There. She’s out.
And on that note, let’s flush and move on.
It’s going to be a great weekend!
