There’s always the risk when Mrs J goes to Scandoland that she’ll forget to have fun today in favor of the nostalgia of yesteryear. Luckily, her memory isn’t very good. Every time she comes back she gets to rediscover something. You know, that feeling where you go “oh yeah, I knew that. I just needed a little reminder…”

She recently rediscovered the cookie culture. Mrs J struggles to fit Scando cookies into English vocabulary. Some of them are more like a dry cookie. Except they’re supposed to be like that. Some of them are like small pieces of cake. All of them are probably very unhealthy. Which possibly has something to do with the fact that most of them are quite sweet and contain copious amounts of butter.

Some may have disturbing colours. Some of them may eventually turn you a disturbing colour. Mrs J didn’t eat the whole thing, but she did eat enough to think “oh yeah, I knew that…”

Living the same experience in reverse, sometimes Mrs J remembers very well what she likes and is only reluctantly persuaded to try a new variation. Like the new pickled herring. Mrs J is a traditionalist with pickled herring. Onion and mustard pickles her herring, thank you very much. But this year she tried a lemon and elderberry pickle. And holy pickle Batman! The old just became the new. How about that!
