There’s something to be said about nothing. As in space, absence, inaction. It may sound contradictory, but without some nothing it’s pretty hard to make sense of something. You’dbeprettyannoyedifMrsJstoppedusingthespacebar. For example.

The ever busy workers in the village recently knocked down a house further down the street from Mrs J. Of course she had to have a look. And it’s almost too bad that this new space they created is going to be refilled. It would need a clean-up, but the space makes the street look much more relaxed.

Mrs J isn’t always a fan of empty space. And she likes a lot of stuff that other people would consider to be clutter. But during the course of several jobs being done in her house over the last weeks, including her whole house being repainted, she’s developed a whole new appreciation of clean bright space.

The visual benefits of absence and space are obvious, once you see them.

Or don’t, as it were…

How being “absentminded” can be good is more difficult to imagine. January and February are always difficult months for Mrs J. Her energy levels are down and she doesn’t feel like doing anything at all. Especially if it’s raining. And it’s been raining a lot.

This year she figured that she could work with Mother Nature instead of against her. That with a little rebranding a winter depression can become a winter recharge. That if you’re not working perhaps you can get others working for you, while you take a break.

Sometimes stuff happens even if you do nothing. And if it doesn’t that’s ok too. Absence, space, nothing, can be good. It can get you ready for that great something, later.

As the wise man said: The space bar isn’t just for astronauts … ?
