Today, Mrs J would like to talk about Hypnos. Here he is.

Hypnos is the personification of sleep. Greek guy. Quite old, now. Mrs J figures he got teased in school (could have something to do with his ear sprouting a wing?) and prefers to go just by Mr Sandman. Because sleep isn’t really considered to be cool. Kind of like MacGyver goes by just MacGyver instead of … whatever.

Anyway.

Sleep, according to Mrs J, should be considered cool. In her mind, it is one of the most underrated sources for improved quality of life you can tap into.

According to Wikipedia, sleep is:

…a naturally recurring state characterized by reduced or absent consciousness, relatively suspended sensory activity, and inactivity of nearly all voluntary muscles…. Sleep is a heightened anabolic state, accentuating the growth and rejuvenation of the immune, nervous, skeletal and muscular systems. It is observed in all mammals, all birds, and many reptiles, amphibians, and fish.

Mrs J can observe sleep “in action” as it were, in Master C and Ms Crazypants, her resident sleep gurus. They happily sleep for 18 hours and still feel the need for a bit of a snooze in between.

We (as in “we, the human race”) still haven’t nailed down everything that happens during sleep. But Mrs J figures that like MacGyver, sleep can simply fix a lot of things.

And that’s even without the duct tape.

Mrs J can not believe how having time to sleep 9 hours every night on a regular basis has improved her mood, health and general well-being over the last 6 months. Constant sleep-deprivation, for Mrs J, was like living in an aquarium.

She can only imagine how it must be for new parents that get no sleep at all for months. Mrs J gets all grumpy just not sleeping for a few nights, never mind months!

So tonight Mrs J would like to wish herself and all of you a very good nights sleep. It will do wonders!
